We hope to increase the regularity of our enjoyable American tournaments - watch noticeboards for details.
AMERICAN TOURNAMENT SUNDAY 16TH NOVEMBER 2008
Amazing we played at all today! The day was dank with
drizzly rain, but nine of us ventured out with intention to play some
fun, competitive tennis.
The only females, Kate and myself, played
some intriguing games with Colin M, Doug, Dave, John P, Ed, Paul and
Norm.
As rain drizzled on and off all afternoon, some
played three games, others four.
Therefore, working on an average the winners were
Colin M with 19 points and Kate on 17. An exhilarating afternoon of
tennis and dodge the rain!!

A good afternoon of fun competitive tennis,
cake and tea.

American Tournament 19th September 2008
A lovely sunny atmosphere at this evenings
event; this was helped by the great weather!! With 14 players
Helen, Pat, Pauline, Tina, Liz Burch and myself. Colin W, Dave S, Pete,
Jeremy, Jeff, Mike S, James B and Norman. Play was continual-therefore
2 were only waiting briefly! A good evening's play followed by tea, cakes
and Beer!! The winning ladies were Pat and Helen both with 19 points and the
playoff -a 'table tennis' match with Helen triumphant. Liz and myself drew
second with 17 points. Pete and Colin fought competitively against each
other all night and Pete won by one point with 22 and Colin
21, third was James with 19 points.

great success, with exactly 12 players! Pat, Kate, Anna, Jackie, Colin H,
Doug, Ed, Paul, Dave S, Dave W, Norman and newcomer kieron, Doug's system
worked well and everyone had a great time and helped out, and thanks to Hannah
(kieron's daughter) for adding up the scores and helping with the drinks. Kate

The 5th American Tournament of the year did not
take place as only 8 club members braved the heat of Sunday afternoon. Swelled
by the unexpected arrival of Jim and Fiona who arrived for Social we spent the
afternoon playing a friendly league format. Jim & Colin Williams won all
their 4 matches, Gaynor & Peter won 2, Kate & Jeremy also won 2, leaving
John Pryse & Fiona winning 1 and Melvin & Pauline also winning 1. Pleasant company I thought. Too hot for tennis though.
18/06/06 The ladies saw Kate top with Liz Burch and Helen joint second. Young Laurence Burch performed well in his 1st tournament since becoming an approved junior, and it was also good to see Jenny Wright in action, her tennis has come on a lot and was welcomed to join in by the members present.
21/05/06 The 3rd American Tournament of the year was cancelled due to bad weather 08/04/06
The 2nd American tournament of the
year was attended by 16 club members. The blue skies and sunshine
of the morning had, by 2pm, given way to grey clouds and a forecast of
impending rain.
A couple of sets were managed before the
rain came. In that time, both Peter Worby and Angie Edmonds managed to top the
leader board in the male and female categories respectively.
Shortly after 3.15pm the players
adjourned to the clubhouse for our cream tea kindly provided by Pat which kept
everyone happy for the next 45 minutes. As it was still raining the consensus
was to call it a day which they duly did.
WINNERS - Pete Worby and Angela Edmonds.
MOST APPALLING PERFORMANCE - Doug
Pullinger
BIGGEST EATER - Mat Colman
Peter Worby 19/03/06 The first American tournament of the year took place today. A good turnout of 18 players on a glorious afternoon produced winners in Dave Williams and Tracey Bunyard - congratulation to them both. Thanks also to Liz Beak for organising, and to Pat Foster for the teas!
