Gutted,
a loss!
It
was so close and all down to the last match that unfortunately (&
surprisingly) Mark & Colin lost to two youngsters (15 & 14!), who
Worby & I had beaten 6-1! Obviously our fatness intimidated the kids!
So now I go off on holiday and hope that we can get a win in the last game
next Monday at Leverstock Green and then it is out of our hands.

Another
great result against the team we were tying with at the top of the
table! So bring on
St Albans
who are our main competition now.
Tea was great (as I did it yet again!). Costco
pizza and profiteroles but aided by Mark who supplied some chocolate
gateau and cheesecake – thanks. Good as team spirit is at the moment,
there is a feeling Peter may be better off leaving the roll-ups until
after the clearing and washing up has been done, rather than having a
fag & then coming inside the clubhouse to find all has been
miraculously completed!

Another
injury for the captain (calf strain) and a holiday for Colin Hewett
(well deserved?) meant a call up for James Sylvester and Chris Hewett. A
late turn-up by one of their players meant that we had a 1-0 start by
7:01pm! It continued from there and we recorded another win (Pete &
Chris – politeness prevents me from commenting!).
Tea
was the standard bread, ham, pate, cheese etc but a bottle of Budweiser
each upped the score by half a point. Surprise of the evening was Worby
declining the beer and going for a tea – perhaps feeling guilty?!
5.5/10

Played
last night with slight trepidation as Cassiobury were top of the league
and unbeaten. However, after the first round, we had gone into a
magnificent 3 – 0 lead which shocked the opposition, and from there we
were able to continue to a fantastic victory. Very well done to all,
particularly Colin & Mark who won all three sets and the rest of us
managed to support them.
Finished with a very nice supper of chilli con
carne and to follow…… profiteroles! This was interesting as we had
to take one, dip in the sauce and then try and eat without drooling,
dripping, pouring the sauce down your shirt. We were very unimpressed
with Worby’s efforts of forming a reservoir of sauce in his spoon
first and floating a profiterole on the top. The best bit was there was
no salad! Therefore we reckon 9.5/10.

Very
hot evening and a hastily put together team. I was non-playing captain
due to injury and there were last minute fitness tests on two other
players – Colin & Peter. Thankfully they passed but late on,
Boycey informed us that he couldn’t play due to the world falling out
of his bottom. It was decided that this would be awkward if he went up
for a killer smash and………
So
at the last moment
Warren
was called up to join the already promoted Leo. The team responded
magnificently to beat the team that included the legendary “The
Wall”, so well done to you all.
Boycey
mate, you and I need to respond to get our places back! Perhaps you
could pass your tummy bug round so that we get a chance!
Tea was fantastic as I did it – jacket spuds, beans and cheese –
comfort food! Thanks to Pat for helping and providing left-over cakes!
9/10!

Yay
get in! First win as skipper!
A
cool blustery evening that looked like rain at the start, but happily
that was the only dreary thing about the evening as Croxley A’s took
their first win of the season, thumping West Herts D 8 – 1. The two
W’s punched well above their considerable weight losing only 3 games
in their 3 sets. However, they were well supported by Colin H, Mark E,
Boycey and Laurence. Somehow though the Boyce/Burch partnership managed
to lose a set which obviously meant the washing up duties!
Which brings us to the tea…. Wow, the worry is that the catering has
peaked too soon! Liz provided us with a sumptuous lasagne and garlic
bread as well as cheesecake and chocolate cake. The only downside for
the tea was that Liz also provided salad (green leaves, cherry tomatoes
and Coleslaw), for which Peter insisted that there ought to be a ¼
point deduction! A lengthy conversation was had as to whether coleslaw
counted as salad. So from the poor tea at
St Albans
a couple of weeks ago which probably rated a 1 at best, a score was
awarded of 9.75 for this one – thanks Liz!
It
will be very upsetting for the team when I do my one of bread, cheese
& pate!
