Captain痴
Log:
The
final match of a disappointing (understatement) season for the
C's. With holidays etc there were more opportunities for D teamers
to make their mark, as well as a welcome return for Steve C making his
first appearance of the season. With rain clouds threatening all
evening we did well to play the game, and it was clear from the outset
that the key was the performance against Next Gen's B and C pairs.
Their first pair looked very strong and romped to three 6-0 set wins.
After
round 1, we were still in the match courtesy of Steve & Maurice's
miracle comeback from 4-1 down, a teriffic effort. Round 2 defined
the match however, and we had to win against the B and C pairs.
Doug and James duly obliged against a pair who ultimately lost all 3
sets, but Laurence and Edd fell short crashing to a 6-1 defeat, no
repeat of last week's heroics.
Sadly
that was that. 4-2 down going into the last round, and although we
picked up 2 sets the match was lost.
Looking
back over the season, I'm still not quite sure how we managed to lose
all 12 matches, so it will be a challenge for the C's to return to
Division 6 next season, almost certainly with a new captain.
